INTERVIEW WITH CARLOS PONCE: The actor sits down with LCP (Lights! Camera! Popcorn!) to talk about his role in the latest Tinker Bell series “The Pirate Fairy”

by Adriana Jimenez
The Puerto Rican actor, singer and composer Carlos Ponce is back in a new Disney animated film in the latest Tinker Bell series "The Pirate Fairy".
In the film that's available April 1st on Blu-ray and DVD, Ponce gives life to Bonito—a big, strong, buff pirate with a sensitive soul and a passion for sowing. Not only can the huge Spaniard pirate throw a harpoon a hundred yards away, but he also enjoys applying dainty double-stitched seams to his fairy captain's tiny outfits.
Having worked on past animated films like "Rio" and "Free Birds", Ponce said he felt quite comfortable in the recording booth. He said he definitely practiced his "arr" around the house to channel his inner pirate, but revealed to Lights! Camera! Popcorn! of the real reason why the character came quite natural to him.
"That was all me, it's Carlos Ponce, they saw I was a big, strong guy and yet I was very sensitive, so they based the whole character on me. I'm very modest. I'm kidding!" he joked with a playful grin.
While Bonito and Ponce may not be one of the same, one thing they have for sure in common is the talent for singing. Ponce, who's reached the #1 spot on the Billboard charts several times in the past, lends his voice in a good ol' catchy pirate song that he guarantees will get stuck in your head.
"It's a great song… it gets embedded into your brain—forever!"
